Quilt Tour, Part 7

I'll admit I haven't been so crafty this past week which means more touring back at home....

This is a fun chicken kit I purchased in IL in 2001 when Auntie B. came to visit.
I think I completed it in 2003 before Little Miss Finally 4 was born.
The chickens live in kitchen.
I think I completed this Scrap sampler in 2004.
It currently lives in the living room.

Hopefully I'll have a more productive run soon and have something new to share!

Until then...

A birthday!

No hobby time today because...
Little Miss Almost 4 turned 4 today...

So I guess she's Little Miss Finally 4! HA...

It was a great day! Lots of Littlest Pet Shop animals, family & cake! She even got to be the birthday girl for the first time at preschool!

Little Mr. I'm 5 enjoyed helping her play with her presents. He supervised the icing of the cake and tasted the icing to see that it was okay! HA... Well, I'm not a great baker, but Little Miss Finally 4 loved her cake!

QUILT TOUR, Part 6

While visiting my parents over the weekend, I snapped a few shots of
the quilts I've given them as gifts over the past few years!
I made this for my Santa collecting mom
for Christmas in 2005!
It is a Buggy Barn pattern.
In October of 2001 my Auntie B. came
to see me while I was still living in Illinois.
We made several of these winter Angels
together. This is the project she used
to teach me how to applique!
Thanks Auntie B.!
I think I ended up giving to my mom
for Christmas that year.
(I gave one to my Mother-in-law
and kept one for myself too.)

I made this little WELCOME for my mom in 2004, (I think).

This is one of my favorite things I've ever made.

Ever just have so much fun making something?

Auntie B. & I worked together on this one
for my parents' bed for their birthdays one year.
It is another Buggy Barn pattern. We just love those!

This is one of my early quilts. I made this for my parents

for Christmas in 2002. The larger hearts represent my

parents and their three children, and the smaller hearts

represent their 8 grandchildren.

I think this is a Thimbleberries pattern.

I made this quilt for my dad for Christmas in 2004.

It's a Thimbleberries quilt too.

I made this for my parents' 35th anniversary

in 2006.

Needle Felting 101

I did it! I finished knitting my red bag, felted it, and then needle felted a flower onto it! Very happy! AmandaJean over at Crazy Mom Quilts asked me to post the steps involved with the needle felting. I could not find much information online but it is possible that I'm just not looking in the right spots. I pretty much just went with my instinct here, so anybody out there who knows a better technique feel free to comment! I'm hooked and want to know more!

Materials:
*roving wool fiber
*foam pad for work surface
*felting needles (these are super sharp)
*stencil or some other shape, template (optional)
*wool felt (either that you have knit or wool felt you can purchase at the fabric store)
*something to move the wool around (knitting needle, tweezers, anything to keep your hands from getting stabbed)

I first placed the foam into the bag and then placed the stencil where I wanted it. took some of the wool and placed it over the stencil and just started poking the fibers with a needle. I moved the fibers around to keep them in the correct spot and then just kept poking until all of the fibers are compacted into the shape. I then removed the stencil and viola! It looked as though the flower has been appliqued with no stitching involved. Love it!
Any questions?

There will definitely be more wool felting with needle felting embellishment in my future. I'm thinking the Lucy Bag I'm working on is going to need some felt love too! HA. Remember, if you don't want to commit to knitting and felting wool before you get to the needle felting part, just go to the fabric store and purchase wool felt to use instead.

Here are a few links to places for purchasing the roving wool and a link to Knitty Gritty on HGTV
